Guide
Can you run the .reg or .bat files people share for more FPS? Check what they change first
One run of a .reg, .bat, .cmd or .ps1 file can change hundreds of Windows values, mostly with no way back. Files shared as FPS boosts usually mix values that work, values that do nothing and values that turn Windows' protection off.
Dangerous values: don't run it
- Microsoft Defender off: nothing stops viruses any more.
- UAC off: programs get admin rights without asking, and FiveM stops opening too.
- SmartScreen off, or downloads losing their internet mark: harmful files open without a warning.
- Spectre / Meltdown fixes off, or exploit protection changed for every program.
- Memory integrity or VBS off, which VALORANT needs on some PCs.
- PowerShell allowed to run any downloaded script.
- Windows Update off: no more security fixes.
- TRIM off: SSDs slow down and wear faster.
- A whole registry key deleted with no backup.
Values that do nothing
- IRQ priorities: a myth from Windows 98. Windows ignores them.
- Connection limits for old Internet Explorer: no effect on games or ping.
- AlwaysUnloadDll: does nothing since Windows 2000.
- Keyboard speed above 31, Windows' highest value.
- Game lists and counters copied from the file author's own PC.
Read the file before running it
- Right click the file, pick Open with and choose Notepad. Don't double click it.
- In a .reg file look at the key names in square brackets and the values under them.
- In .bat, .cmd and .ps1 files look for commands like reg add, sc config, bcdedit and Set MpPreference.
- If you see Windows Defender, EnableLUA, SmartScreen or DeviceGuard, stop there.
If you really run one, make a restore point first every time. These files have no Undo.
Let Savenz Optimizer read it
The PC Check page of Savenz Optimizer has Check a file. Drop a .reg, .bat, .cmd or .ps1 file on it: it reads the text only and never runs the file, then sorts every line into harmful, no effect, already in Savenz with a backup and Undo, or unknown. Not sure about a file? Ask in the Discord before you run it.
