FiveM crashes in legitimacy.dll? How to fix it
legitimacy.dll is the part of FiveM that checks your Rockstar sign in and that this PC really has GTA V. When FiveM crashes there, it is usually not the graphics card or Windows but the sign in files FiveM keeps on the PC.
Clear the Rockstar sign in files
- Close FiveM completely.
- Press Win + R, type %LocalAppData% and press Enter.
- Find the DigitalEntitlements folder and delete it (it goes to the Recycle Bin, so it can come back).
- Start FiveM again. It makes the folder again when you sign in.
Start GTA V story mode once
Open the Rockstar Games Launcher and sign in with the account that owns GTA V. If you bought the game on Steam or Epic, open that one and sign in too. Start GTA V story mode once, close it when it has loaded, then start FiveM.
Set the clock right
Rockstar's sign in fails when the PC clock is wrong. Open Settings, Time & language, Date & time, turn on Set time automatically and press Sync now.
Still crashing? Verify the game files
The Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam and Epic each have a button to check GTA V's files (verify). Run it and wait until it is done. Broken files download again.
Let Savenz Optimizer do it
The FiveM page of Savenz Optimizer has Clear Rockstar sign in files, which moves DigitalEntitlements to the Recycle Bin for you. The Fixes page has Turn time sync back on for the clock, and the crash helper tells you whether the crash was in legitimacy.dll or somewhere else. Still not fixed? Ask in the Discord.
