How to clear FiveM's cache: what to delete and what to keep
Clearing the cache is the first thing people suggest when FiveM crashes or a server's things don't load. Many delete the whole folder and then download FiveM's game files all over again. Deleting the part that holds the servers' files is enough.
Where the folder is
Press Win + R, type %LocalAppData%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data and press Enter. If FiveM is installed somewhere else, FiveM.app sits next to FiveM.exe.
What you can delete
- Close FiveM completely. Check Task Manager that nothing starting with FiveM is still running.
- Open the cache folder and delete everything in it except the game folder.
- Delete the server-cache and server-cache-priv folders inside data.
- Start FiveM and join the server again.
Don't delete cache\game and don't delete the whole FiveM.app folder, or FiveM downloads its own files again. That takes long and gains nothing.
What happens after
Cars, maps, clothes and other files the server sends download again. The first join after clearing takes longer than usual, after that it is as fast as before.
When to clear it
- FiveM crashes and the crash text says the server's files are broken.
- Cars, buildings or clothes don't show up, or look wrong.
- Only one server does it: that server has a broken file. Tell its admins.
- Many servers still do it after clearing: unstable RAM can break downloaded files. Test with XMP / EXPO off.
Let Savenz Optimizer clear it
Cleaner in Savenz Optimizer has FiveM cache: it clears the cache and the server caches but keeps cache\game, and refuses while FiveM is still open. It finds the folder even when FiveM is installed elsewhere, and it is free. Still crashing after clearing? Paste the crash text on the FiveM page or ask in the Discord.
