C: drive full and games slow? What you can delete without breaking anything
When the Windows drive has less than 15 GB free, Windows and games start to slow down. FiveM needs room for its cache and the files servers send, and a full drive can crash it. The good news: lots of things can go without any harm.
How much space to keep free
- The Windows drive: no less than 15 GB.
- The drive with FiveM and GTA V: at least 20 GB.
- Want a bigger NVIDIA shader cache? Keep more than 40 GB free on C:.
Safe to delete
- Temp files older than a day
- Windows Update downloads. Windows gets them again if it needs them.
- The Delivery Optimization cache kept for sharing with other PCs
- App error reports and crash dumps
- Browser and Discord caches. Logins, history and passwords stay.
- FiveM's cache, except the cache\game folder
Think before deleting
- Game and graphics driver shader caches can go, but games rebuild them on start and stutter at first.
- Blue screen minidumps: keep them while you are still looking into blue screens. They show the cause.
Do it in Windows
- Open Settings, System, Storage.
- Press Temporary files, pick what to delete and press Remove files.
- Look at Cleanup recommendations for large files or apps you don't use.
- Uninstall games and programs you no longer play in Settings, Apps.
Let Savenz Optimizer clear it
Cleaner on the Tweaks page of Savenz Optimizer shows the size of each item before deleting and ticks only the safe ones. Shader caches and minidumps you pick yourself, with their downside shown. The Uninstaller page removes programs you don't use, and Something wrong on the Fixes page (Stutter or low FPS) warns when the Windows drive has under 15 GB free. Free to use. Questions?
