Guide
Should you turn off Enhance pointer precision (mouse acceleration)? And how
Enhance pointer precision sounds like it makes you more accurate, but it is mouse acceleration. Move the mouse fast and the pointer goes further than a slow move over the same hand distance. In shooters your hand moves the same but the aim does not, so you can't learn your flicks.
Turn it off in Windows
- Open Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Mouse.
- Press Additional mouse settings.
- On the Pointer Options tab untick Enhance pointer precision.
- Press OK.
What pointer speed to use
Leave Windows' pointer speed on the middle notch, its default. Change the sensitivity in the game and the mouse's DPI instead, so the distance stays the same on every PC.
Mouse values you can leave alone
- Double click speed and hover times have nothing to do with games.
- Mouse curve values that some tweak files change. With acceleration off Windows does not use them.
- A .reg file that sets the pointer speed to Windows' default changes nothing.
Mouse still feels uneven?
The problem may not be a Windows value but the USB port or the mouse's polling rate, like a hub in between or more Hz than the PC can take. See the guide on polling rate and USB ports.
Let Savenz Optimizer set it
The Mouse & Keyboard page of Savenz Optimizer has Mouse acceleration off, for your user and the sign in screen, with the same values Windows writes when you untick it. A backup is kept and Undo puts it back. Check a file on the PC Check page shows what a downloaded mouse .reg file really changes. Questions? Ask in the Discord.
