Gaming laptop with low FPS? The picture goes through the CPU's graphics
Most gaming laptops ship in hybrid mode: the dedicated card renders the game, but the picture reaches the screen through the graphics inside the CPU to save battery. That costs FPS and adds a little delay. If you play plugged in anyway, you can change it.
Switch to dGPU
- Check whether the laptop has a MUX switch. Models with one have a GPU mode option in the maker's app.
- Open the laptop maker's app, find GPU mode and pick dGPU. Some brands call it Discrete or Ultimate.
- Restart the PC.
More FPS and less delay, but the battery runs out faster. Best when you play plugged in.
No MUX switch?
Make games always use the dedicated card. In Windows go to Settings, System, Display, Graphics, pick the game and set it to High performance. The picture still goes through the CPU's graphics, but the game won't render on them.
Let Savenz Optimizer check it
The Home page of Savenz Optimizer tells you when the laptop shows games through the graphics inside the CPU. The .EXE page sets each game's GPU to High performance in one place, along with that game's CPU and I/O priority.
