Intel 13th / 14th gen crashes and instability: update the BIOS (microcode 0x12F)
Some Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs have a stability problem that makes games crash or the PC unstable. Intel released microcode 0x12F to fix it, and it comes with a new motherboard BIOS.
Which PCs to check
Desktop Intel Core i5, i7 and i9 of the 13th and 14th gen, such as the 13600K, 13700K, 14700K or 14900K, including the KF, KS, F and T models, on microcode older than 0x12F.
How to check
The Home page of Savenz Optimizer shows the CPU's microcode, and the FiveM page warns by itself when it is older than 0x12F. Export PC Specs shows your motherboard model and BIOS version.
How to update the BIOS
- Find your motherboard model in Export PC Specs.
- Open the support page of the motherboard maker and download the newest BIOS for that model.
- Update with the maker's tool inside the BIOS, such as ASUS EZ Flash, MSI M-Flash or Gigabyte Q-Flash.
- Back in Windows, check in Savenz Optimizer that the microcode is 0x12F or newer.
Never turn the PC off or lose power during a BIOS update. BIOS settings usually go back to default afterwards, so turn XMP on again.
Still crashing after the update
Try with CPU and RAM overclocks (XMP / EXPO) off, and update the chipset driver too. The crash helper in Savenz Optimizer suggests this for FiveM crashes in gta-net-five.dll, because players fixed them that way.
