FiveM FPS drops when driving fast? Fix the city loading late
When you drive fast, the game keeps loading the buildings, roads and cars around you. A slow drive or too little memory makes FPS drop in bursts, and the city slowly appears. These are fixes on the PC, so you don't have to turn graphics down until the game looks bad.
1. The game is on a hard disk
Move FiveM and GTA V to an SSD. Loading gets much faster and the city keeps up when you drive fast.
2. Not enough free space
FiveM keeps its cache and the files servers send on the same drive as the game. Keep at least 20 GB free.
3. One RAM stick, or two of different sizes
One stick runs in single channel, and two sticks of different sizes run partly in single channel. CPU heavy games like FiveM lose a lot of FPS. Use two sticks of the same size in the slots your motherboard manual names.
4. RAM runs slower than you paid for
Compare the MT/s your RAM runs at with what the kit is made for. If it is lower, turn on XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD) in the BIOS.
If games crash or you get blue screens after turning it on, turn it off again. Unstable RAM can damage files downloaded from servers.
5. The paging file is off
Many tweaks turn the paging file off. FiveM needs it. Set it back to System managed and restart the PC. Close Chrome and other heavy programs before you play.
6. Memory heavy graphics settings
In FiveM's settings, lower Texture Quality one step and turn off Extended Texture Budget. The game then uses less memory.
Measure before and after
Drive the same route before and after a fix, then compare average FPS, 1% low and the number of stutters. 1% low shows drops while driving much better than the average.
Let Savenz Optimizer check it
The Home page of Savenz Optimizer checks points 1, 3 and 4 when it opens: whether FiveM is on a hard disk, how many RAM sticks you have and the MT/s they run at compared with the kit's rating. Result Card measures average FPS, 1% low and stutters so you can see before and after.
