FiveM server list empty or can't join? What to check
FiveM talks to Cfx.re's servers all the time: for the server list, when you join, for the game check and for updates. If the PC cannot reach them, the list stays empty or joining hangs.
Check in this order
- Do Cfx.re's servers answer? FiveM uses four: servers-frontend.fivem.net for the server list, lambda.fivem.net for joining, policy-live.fivem.net for the game check and runtime.fivem.net for updates. If other sites work but these don't, try another DNS or a VPN. Cfx.re can also be down for a while, so try again later.
- The PC clock must be right. More than 2 minutes off and FiveM's secure connections fail. Turn on Windows' time sync and set the time zone to Bangkok.
- Windows Firewall must not block FiveM. Open Windows Defender Firewall, go to Advanced settings and look in both Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules. Delete any rule that blocks FiveM.
- The hosts file must have no line with cfx.re or fivem. If it has one, reset the hosts file to Windows' own.
- A proxy left on, by a VPN or a removed booster program, makes FiveM time out. If you did not set it up, turn it off.
Fixed all of that and still stuck?
- Close FiveM completely and open it again after the fixes.
- If you use another antivirus or firewall, allow FiveM in it too.
- Stuck on Connecting to Rockstar Games Services is a different step (the GTA V check). See the guide on that in the guides list.
Let Savenz Optimizer check it
The FiveM page of Savenz Optimizer has a FiveM connection check that looks at all 5 points at once. It only reads, needs no admin rights, and tells you which one to fix. Reset the hosts file on the Network page and turn off a leftover proxy on the Fixes page.
